Program Dates
The Bard-Smolny Program generally coincides with academic
semesters at North American colleges.
Although Smolny College's
academic calendar changes from year to year based on changes in the
overall University schedule, Fall Semester courses usually begin in
the first week of September and continue for 15 weeks. The 15-week
semester is followed by a week of zachyoti (oral exams), a break for New Years from December 31st to around January 9th, and then an examination period that lasts until the last week of January.
There is then a two-week break before the start of the Spring Semester, which starts in early-mid February, covers 15 weeks and usually ends in the last week of May. This is followed by a week of zachyoti and an exam period, usually lasting until the third week of June.
Both semesters are preceded by the RSL intensive, which begins two weeks prior. (Students enrolling for the full academic year will take the RSL intensive in the fall semester only.)
